Dominion School for Autism at Walnut Grove is designed for students, ages two and a half to six years old, who are able to learn in a natural classroom environment. The Preschool at Walnut Grove incorporates all of the program components of DSFA. In addition, children at the Walnut Grove campus have the ability to move into a program that has typical peer interaction opportunities every day. This provides time to practice socialization techniques in partnership with Walnut Grove Children Learning Center. Each student has a combination of small group and 1 to 1 instruction daily to address their individual academic needs.
All programs are planned so that each child learns in the least restrictive environment based on the individual needs of that child. Individual goals and objectives are developed from assessments and data driven programmatic decisions. Core curriculum concepts are taught. All individualized programs focus on the skills to the degree necessary for that child determined by the IEP/IIP team, and information received by completing The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS) described above. Additionally, consultative speech and language, occupational therapy services, reading and behavior specialist support are provided.
