Jennifer Brizel Wood, the founder and Executive Director of Dominion School for Autism, has been involved with the education of children with autism for over eight years.
Mrs. Wood is a graduate of Rider University. Prior to founding Dominion School for Autism, Mrs. Wood provided home based services and taught in Henrico County Schools, utilizing the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques and skills she obtained while studying at the Princeton Child Development Institute.
While working with children with autism in the public school, Mrs. Wood saw first hand the need for intensive programs and support services that are difficult to implement in the public school setting. Mrs. Wood also saw the financial burdens placed upon families who were providing an alternative education for their children. Dominion School for Autism is the realization of Mrs. Wood’s dream – a financially attainable education offering distinctive academic and therapeutic instruction for children with autism while promoting strong parental involvement.
Autism is a multifaceted developmental disability. Dominion School for Autism offers a program designed to encourage learning, insight, and patience while allowing students abundant time to reach their full potential.
The mission and educational philosophy of Dominion School for Autism is to provide children with autism an individualized educational program in a loving and supportive atmosphere. Dominion School for Autism assesses the strengths and deficits of each child to create individualized programs for every student. Student to staff ratio is based on each individual student’s educational and behavioral support needs. Dominion School for Autism will ensure that each teacher and assistant will be fully trained in an ABA programmatic philosophy. Dominion School for Autism will provide year round services, weekly community-based activities, tri-monthly home consultations, and opportunities to interact with typical peers.
